Something is Changed in Mumbai, do you know?

The Western Railways suburban station Elphinstone Road station will change to Prabhadevi from midnight of Wednesday (18 Jul). This is an official statement from the western railway on Monday, The statement is saying that the necessary changes were being made to PA systems, Station boards and indicators. The station code for Prabhadevi station will be PBHD.

 

This renaming was first proposed in 1991, Earlier it was named after Lord Elphinstone, who was the Governor of erstwhile Bombay from 1853 to 1860. Prabhadevi is the name of the area in the vicinity of the station. It also derives its name from the temple of the deity which is 300 years old. The decision to change the name to Prabhadevi was taken on 16 December 2016 in the Winter session of the Maharashtra assembly in Nagpur.

 

Elphinstone Road is the station where on last year September 29, 23 peoples were killed and over 39 are injured due to rush-hour stampede at the railway station’s foot over bridge.

 

After change of Elphinstone to Prabhadevi, Here is the list of some railway stations in Mumbai which name may be change-

 

Currey Road Station- Currey road is the location situated in the middle of Mumbai, This station was used in British era to carry horses, this place is near to famous places like parel and lalbaugh, In future it might be change to Lalbaugh.

 

Sandhurst Road Station– This station is renamed from British governor Lord Sandhurst, Station was built in 1921, And now minister wants it to renamed to Dongri.

 

Reay Road Station- The station was built around 1910 and was named after Lord Reay, Which was the governor between 1885 and 1890, And it might be renamed to Ghodapdeo.

 

Cotton Green Station- It is one of the oldest station in Mumbai which is on the Harbour Line, This station also might be change to Kalachowki.

 

Mumbai Central Station- This is one of the major station in Mumbai, It is one of the important station on the Western line from this station many of intercity/Expresses departs. This station might be renamed to Nana Chowk.

 

Grant Road Station- This station is also named from British governor (Robert Grant), This station was established in 1859,This station may also will rename to Gaondevi in future.
